Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc:
Tourism Readiness Strategy (2024)
IN COLLABORATION WITH WHITE OTTER CONSULTING
KLB Consulting was honoured to support Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc (TteS) in the development of a community-led Tourism Readiness Strategy. This work is rooted in a deep respect for the community’s healing journey and its steadfast commitment to honouring the 215 children confirmed to be buried at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School site, collectively known as Le Estcwicwéý, The Missing.
In close collaboration with the community and partners like Indigenous Tourism BC (ITBC), KLB helped secure $30,000 in grant funding, with an additional $250,000 currently under review. These funds are supporting meaningful projects that reflect TteS values of cultural revitalization, language reclamation, land stewardship, and reconciliation.
Through community engagement and thoughtful planning, the strategy aims to build TteS’s tourism capacity in a way that is aligned with Secwépemc knowledge systems and priorities. The result is a strategic roadmap that lays the foundation for a respectful, resilient, and self-determined tourism economy.
Key Components:
Funding support through successful grant applications and ongoing proposal development
